Vote! Our Entry to the Rethink The Food Label Contest

At Foodtree we concern ourselves with food information and how to get it to your fingertips so that you can use it to make decisions. With that in mind, we’ve submitted a concept to the  Rethinking Food Labels contest just announced by News 21 in Berkeley California in partnership with GOOD Magazine.

Because when you know more, you eat better.

When Michelle Obama recently stated that she wanted to see “clear, consistent, front-of-the-package labels that give people the information they’ve been asking for, in a format that they understand”,  she meant it.  Food advocates and the food label industry has been abuzz with ideas around the subject ever since.

News 21 in Berkeley California, in a partnership with GOOD Magazine, quickly jumped on board and launch a crowd-sourcing effort to reinvent the food label. Their Rethinking The Food Label contest just entered its voting stage, and experts like Michael Pollan and Michael Jacobson have agreed act as judges.

Foodtree has submitted a solution here which is based on the intricacies and needs of each individual eater. It’s unique for everyone; giving you information based on what you’ve decided matters to you and your family. We feel that labeling needs to include the stats and facts that affect YOU…not the ones that food brands decide you should know.

Static labels are hard to understand and impersonal. No two people are the same, so why should our labels be?

Using dynamic and interactive food labels that offer us personalized information about food and how it affects us can be delivered right to the palm of our hands using today’s technologies. This Foodtree label concept, focused on your personal profile information, will deliver results tailored to your preferences. You have the information you want; everything from health information, to the date that it was first harvested, to farming practices, and whether it fits your flavour profile.

This label has the potential to include an endless list of insights that make your life easier. It makes it easy to know where your food came from, how processed it is, how it got there, and where you can find some nearby.

Making good decisions comes from having the best and most up-to-date information right at your fingertips, even more so when that information is tailored to you. Interactive food labeling is powerful and dynamic.
