5 Recommended free QR code scanner apps for Android, Blackberry, and iPhone

Do you know what these do? Quick Response (QR) codes are popping up everywhere, from coffee packaging to bus stop advertising. Anyone with a smartphone can scan the code with one of a number of free apps, which will show you the website, video, or image that code is connected to.

These are often used for advertising, but their usefulness is emerging on a broader scale. Foodtree has been using them to help food businesses tell their story, and  we think they’ll become increasingly important to businesses as they differentiate themselves through marketing, social media, and unique in-store experiences.  According to one study, QR code usage rose 1253% just last year.

So for the newbies to QR scanning, the first step is to download a scanning app. This means you’ll be prepared for every QR code that you come across in the future. Here are a few of our favorites, all of which are free.
